WriteUnite CIC (WriteUnite) ‘Visions of the Future’ Submission Rules
We accept submissions from people who will be aged between 4 and 18 on 20th November 2022.
All submissions included in our ‘Visions of the Future’ book published in January 2022 will automatically be in consideration for the Global Exhibition.
We can only accept submissions that are 80 words or fewer as we will only have limited space on street corners for our Global Exhibition. Please check the word count before submitting. WriteUnite reserves the right to abridge shortlisted submissions.
Submissions close on 25th September 2022. We are unable to include submissions made after this date, and advise not to wait until the last minute to enter submissions.
Submissions must be made by an adult (parent, guardian, teacher, youth leader or other responsible adult), on behalf of the young person. This adult must have parental consent to submit and be bound by these Rules (including WriteUnite’s use of the submissions.) This adult may be asked, with parental consent, to provide proof of age, identity and eligibility.
The responsible adult making the submission will be required to approve the entry and agree to accept and be bound by these Rules (including WriteUnite’s use of the submission) on behalf of the contributor. This will be by way of a checkbox in the online form, or through a signed submission form provided by WriteUnite to be sent with postal and email submissions.
The responsible adult must provide their own contact and personal details (not the young person’s). If the adult is not the young person’s parent/guardian, they must seek parental permission and if requested by WriteUnite, provide evidence of permission.
For the shortlisted submissions, if permission was given by a teacher, WriteUnite will contact the teacher and ask for confirmation of permission from the entrant’s parent or guardian.
We can accept text, illustrations and/or photographs as submissions. We prefer submissions to be made by post to our UK PO Box but can also accept online submissions. Submissions made by post must be at least A4 sized. Online submissions can be made in the following file types: doc, .docx, .pdf, .jpeg, .jpg, .png. They must be scanned with at least 600 dpi. We may accept submissions in other formats at our discretion for postal and email submissions. The responsible adult will be asked to provide the contributor’s name, age and country of residence and ensure that they have parental permission to do so.
As the submissions will be published, it is important that entrants do not include any personal identifiable details about themselves within the submissions. The submission must not include the young person’s full name in the title or body of the submission, or the name of the school or organisation they attend. Submissions which do contain this information may be removed from consideration.
By submitting to WriteUnite, the responsible adult agrees to the first name, age and country of the contributor to be published and/or in the production of products and that they have parental permission to do so.
All submissions must be the original work of the contributor and must not infringe the copyright, database rights, trademark or other rights of any other party. WriteUnite accepts no responsibility if contributors ignore these Rules and the responsible adult agrees to indemnify WriteUnite against any claim by any third party from any breach of these Rules.
Submissions must not contain defamatory, obscene, offensive, hateful, inflammatory, or any other unsuitable material. Submissions must not promote sexually explicit material, violence, any illegal activity or discrimination based on race, sex, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age. WriteUnite reserves the right to refuse entries that breach our Content Standards. Submissions must be suitable to be broadcast, published or used online for audiences of all ages.
Contributors retain the copyright in their entries but their parent or guardian grants to WriteUnite a perpetual non-exclusive royalty-free licence to publish, broadcast (across all media) and post the entry online and on any other platforms yet to be envisaged. This licence will be deemed to include all the necessary rights and permissions to enable use by WriteUnite to publish the work in any format and complete the administration of the Global Exhibition, in any jurisdiction in perpetuity as a donation, therefore free of charge.
By making a submission, the entrant’s parent or guardian agrees that WriteUnite may at its sole discretion edit, adapt, abridge or translate the entry for the purposes listed in clause 15 above.
Submissions can be made in any language. When felt beneficial to the end user, WriteUnite may also include a translation of all or part of the submission.
Contributors agree in clause 13 that WriteUnite may publish the submissions on their website for the duration of 5 years, after which all names and attribution will be removed unless further consent is given.
Submissions cannot be returned so please remember to retain a copy.
If you have made a submission, we will keep you informed of the project’s progress by email over the life of the project. These are classed as ‘service’ communications, and are part of the rules of submission. We will not include marketing communications in these emails.
WriteUnite reserves the right to disqualify any submission which breaches any of these Rules, brings WriteUnite into disrepute or to withhold publication if in its opinion, submissions do not reach the required standard.
WriteUnite reserves the right to amend these Rules or cancel or postpone this publication at any stage, if deemed necessary in its opinion, or if circumstances arise outside of its control.
All decisions made by WriteUnite are final.
WriteUnite, its sub-contractors, subsidiaries, agencies and/or any other organisation associated with this publication cannot accept any responsibility whatsoever for any technical failure or malfunction or any other problem with any server, Internet access, system or otherwise which may result in any entry being lost or not properly registered or recorded. Proof of sending is not proof of receipt.
These Rules are governed by the laws of England and Wales. This service is subject to WriteUnite’s Terms and Conditions.
